Candle-Making Workshops

Join our candle-makers to learn their craft and leave with a custom scented candle you made yourself.

Book a seat

Workshops are led by members of our Bushwick production team — the same people who make Element Brooklyn candles every week.

You'll smell through a selection of our candle fragrances and choose one as your starting point, then adjust it with booster oils: brighter, smokier, softer, warmer, greener, or whatever direction you like. Then you'll choose a glass vessel, prep it, mix your fragrance, and pour the candle yourself.

After pouring, the candle needs about 25 minutes to set. During that time, you can explore the Gallery, get a Scent Portrait, shop the collection, or take a walk around the Seaport.

Fun hour at the Seaport and I'm already thinking about doing another or coming back for a perfume workshop.

    Wicked Ficus, greener

I kept their Wicked Ficus fragrance mostly as it was and nudged it a little greener. The staff didn't make a fuss over the fact that I clearly had no idea what I was doing. It's in the bathroom now and I light it most evenings.

    Not a gimmick

I don't usually bother with workshops, and I had this one filed as a popup gimmick, but I liked it. Made a candle I actually wanted to burn!

    Usable candles

A friend booked this class as a thank you and I'm glad she did. Maria was really helpful and not sure if we made the best candles in the world but they’re usable.

I figured we'd mostly watch someone else make candles but we did everything ourselves, so much fun! Maria was great and answered questions without turning each one into a lecture.

    Better than lunch

A few of us from work went down to the seaport on a slow friday afternoon instead of the usual lunch and had so much fun, thanks team!!

    Campfire, but more so

Went in thinking I'd just pick a scent and be done, but they let you tweak it with booster oils, I started with Campfire Stereo, put even more smoky notes on top of that and was pretty happy with how it came out

So glad they extended the popup, going to come back again with my sister!

We got our Scent Portraits done too, kind of like a fragrance aura photo, so went home with both a Polaroid and a candle!

Finally, a candle that isn't too sweet for me.

    First pour

Never poured anything hotter than coffee before. Walked out to Pier 17 while it set, came back, and it was a candle.

Signed up on a whim with my roommate after hearing about the brand from some friends and had a great time at the workshop.

    Tomato leaf candle

The candle I made is the one I light when I clean my apartment, used the tomato leaves fragrance as a base, very fresh and earthy

We both went way too floral. Still loved the experience.

    Popup museum

The whole place is a very cool popup fragrance museum, so there was something to do while the candle set instead of just standing around.

    Sunday Cyclist, apparently

A great experience! Best part is while my candle was setting I did the Scent Portrait out front, thirty little misters you rate on a clipboard, I came out as a "Sunday Cyclist" whatever that means. The candle smells great!

    Solo Saturday

Booked a seat alone on a Saturday with no plans. I kept coming back to one fragrance then adjusted it a little. Being able to change my mind without anyone hurrying me on was great and our host Sy seemed fine with that.

Didn't spill any hot wax, so that's something

I obsess over fragrance notes at home so the scent library at the Gallery of Scent was basically built for people like me. Nailed making my own candle.

  • 5 out of 5 Mei Jul 2026

I always assumed the smell of a candle got decided somewhere far away by people in lab coats, so it was fun to be the one deciding.

    so fun

ok so I had the best time at this. I grabbed one of their scents I already kind of liked (Dusk in Eden, I already own the candle) and kept adding a little of this and that until I was happy with it. pouring was my favorite part, I was SO careful lol. while it set I filled up a soap bottle at the refillery. came home with a real candle that I made and I keep showing it to everyone who comes over.

    Spicy

Mine came out a little spicy. Love it.

    Finally booked it

I've seen Element's IG ads for years, the ones where they refill fancy soap bottles, and I'd walked past the gallery a few times before I finally booked it. $45 seemed like a good deal as a lot of candles cost at least that. Really enjoyed the workshop and the team was lovely.

    Finally know why mine tunneled

I've tried making candles at home just with a double boiler and they always tunneled or smelled like nothing. Kyle, who I learned actually works at the Element production factory, explained why that happens. I took their Reading Room as a base and made it smokier. Very informative workshop!

My first time doing anything like this and had a great time.

  • 5 out of 5 Marcus T. Jun 2026

One of the best candles in my apartment and I've gone through a lot of them.

    Good date idea

Went on a date - I wanted something where we didn't have to stare at each other over drinks the whole time. This was a good option, having our hands busy made talking easier somehow.
