Where other workshops send you home with a tiny bottle (sometimes as small as 15 ml!), with us you’ll leave with a full-size 50 ml eau de parfum or 100 ml room spray, mixed to your own formula by our team, then bottled and custom-labeled.
You’ll start your experience at the Gallery of Scent. (You can skip this step if you’ve previously completed a Scent Portrait.) You’ll learn about 30 key perfumery ingredients – and how you rate them will form the foundation for your custom fragrance.
When you arrive, your workstation will display your personalized starting formula – a selection of the notes you loved plus others that go well with them, based on our database of over 70,000 fine fragrances.
In the Fragrance Studio, your palette expands to 65 notes. With our fragrance team on hand to guide you, you’ll discover unexpected favorites that might take you in a whole new direction.
Using scent strips, you’ll try different combinations of top, heart, and base notes to discover how they work together. You can swap notes and compare combinations as your fragrance begins to take shape.
Set the proportions of your chosen notes, deciding which should stand out and which should be more subtle. Then choose between eau de parfum and room spray, and give your fragrance a name.
Our team handles the precise mixing and dilution while you learn more about the notes you chose. You’ll leave with your own 50 ml eau de parfum or 100 ml room spray, finished with a personalized label.
We also host private fragrance workshops for birthdays, team outings, client events, and other group gatherings.
Private sessions can be arranged around your group size, timing, and occasion.
Some fragrance experiences only let you customize an existing perfume. Others hand you a blank slate and an overwhelming number of ingredients. We start you from a balanced formula built from your own ratings at the Gallery of Scent and our database of the notes in over 70,000 fine fragrances. From there you can add, remove and swap notes from our palette of 65, with our team guiding you, so you shape the fragrance yourself without having to figure everything out alone.
None at all. Whether you’re new to fragrance or already have a collection, we’ll help you explore different notes, discover combinations and refine your blend.
The workshop itself is 60 minutes. If you haven’t yet visited the Gallery of Scent, you’ll need to allow 15 minutes before the workshop to complete the Gallery. When you make a booking, we’ll let you know what time you should arrive.
We’ve opened the studio one door down from the Gallery, at 186 Front Street in the South Street Seaport.
If you’ve already completed the Gallery, you can go straight to the Fragrance Studio. When you make a booking, you’ll link your existing Scent Portrait so that we have your personalized starting formula ready when you arrive.
You need to be 18 or older to book. Guests aged 13 to 17 can take part with the adult who booked, who stays for the whole session, and each needs a seat of their own. Children under 13 can’t take part or sit at the workspace.
No. Each seat is for one person creating one fragrance. If you’re coming with a friend or partner, you’ll need to book a seat for each of you.
Yes. Book a seat and enter the person you’re treating as the attendee. Element Brooklyn gift cards can also be used at checkout.
Yes, up to 48 hours before your session, for a full refund, using the link in your confirmation email. Within 48 hours, seats can’t be refunded or rescheduled, but they are transferable: if you can’t make it, send someone in your place by updating the attendee name. The studio works with fragrance oils, essential oils, aroma chemicals and botanical extracts, and there’s fragrance in the air throughout. We can’t guarantee a scent-free or allergen-free space or leave out individual ingredients, so if you have sensitivities, skin allergies or a respiratory condition, or you’re pregnant or nursing, please consider this before booking and tell your instructor before you start.
We keep the details of your finished formula on file. We don’t sell fine fragrances yet, but we hope to offer custom blending in the future, and your formula will be ready when we do.
Yes. Like with all of Element Brooklyn’s products, we use carefully sourced, cruelty-free fragrance ingredients.
