This is a fragrance-making experience like no other. Instead of starting from a blank slate or a generic house blend, your creation begins with your unique preferences. You’ll have the perfect foundation to experiment, refine, and bottle a scent that is entirely your own.
You’ll start your experience at the Gallery of Scent. (You can skip this step if you’ve previously completed a Scent Portrait.) You’ll learn about 30 key perfumery ingredients – and how you rate them will form the foundation for your custom fragrance.
When you arrive next door at our Fragrance Studio, your workstation will display your personalized starting formula. This will feature a complementary selection of the notes you loved plus others that go well with them, based on our database of over 70,000 fine fragrances.
In the Fragrance Studio, your palette expands. With access to 65 distinct notes and the expert guidance of our fragrance team, you’ll experiment on scent strips – combining different notes and getting a sense of how they work together.
Once you’ve made a balanced selection of top, heart and base notes, you’ll choose between a 50 ml eau de parfum or a 100 ml room spray. From there, our team takes over the precise chemistry of mixing and diluting your formula. You’ll leave with a beautifully bottled and custom-labeled fragrance.
We also host private fragrance-making workshops for birthdays, team outings, client events, and other group gatherings.
Private sessions can be arranged around your group size, timing, and occasion. Everyone joining still starts at the Gallery of Scent, so allow time for that before your session.
Some fragrance experiences limit you to customizing an existing perfume. Others start with a blank slate and an overwhelming number of ingredients. We give you a personal starting point: a balanced formula generated from your own ratings at the Gallery of Scent and from our comprehensive database of fragrance notes in 70K+ fine fragrances on the market. From there, you can add, remove and swap notes from our palette of 65, with our team guiding your exploration. You have the freedom to shape the fragrance itself, without having to figure everything out alone. And where other workshops send you home with a tiny bottle – sometimes as small as 15 ml – you’ll leave with a full-size 50 ml eau de parfum, or an even larger 100 ml room spray.
None at all. Whether you’re new to fragrance or already have a collection, we’ll help you explore different notes, discover combinations and refine your blend.
The workshop itself is 60 minutes. If you haven’t yet visited the Gallery of Scent, you’ll need to allow 15 minutes before the workshop to complete the Gallery. When you make a booking, we’ll let you know what time you should arrive.
We’ve opened the studio one door down from the Gallery, at 186 Front Street in the South Street Seaport.
If you’ve already completed the Gallery, you can go straight to the Fragrance Studio. When you make a booking, you’ll link your existing Scent Portrait so that we have your personalized starting formula ready when you arrive.
No. Each seat is for one person creating one fragrance. If you’re coming with a friend or partner, you’ll need to book a seat for each of you.
Although we don’t currently sell fine fragrances, we will save all the details of your finished formula and hope to be able to offer custom blending services in the future.
Yes. Like with all of Element Brooklyn’s products, we use carefully sourced, cruelty-free fragrance ingredients.
